Heel pain can be a terribly debilitating condition that can last for years if untreated. Every day we see people who have been told by their family doctors that there is no treatment available and it will go away eventually. This can be true. In a fair number of cases, plantar fasciitis will go away eventually without treatment. ‘Eventually’ though, could mean literally years and years of pain and disability. Even then, it is very likely to keep recurring after some time.
It is simply not true that you have to suffer this condition with no relief. Living without pain is possible with the right treatment.
This condition is one that predominately affects adults. If the pain that you are researching is heel pain in a child, please see our section on Sever’s Disease.
Heel Pain: Causes, Prevention & Treatment in Brisbane
Heel pain is a common complaint from patients and one that we have seen many times at Walk Without Pain. As such, you can be sure that we know what we are doing when it comes to treating your heel pain in Brisbane.
You may find that you have sharp pain in your heel, particularly when you wake up in the morning and stand on your feet for the first time. While this may get better over the day, the pain may soon reappear when you stand after resting for a while or it may present itself as a dull ache throughout the day.
At Walk Without Pain, we can provide you with heel pain treatment in Brisbane at one of our four podiatry clinics so that you can get on with your life without feeling the pain that you currently do.
What Causes Heel Pain & What Can Be Done To Treat It?
Plantar fasciitis is often the cause of heel pain in many patients that we see. Your feet have a band of tissue, known as your plantar fascia, that runs along the bottom and connects your heel bone and toes. If this becomes inflamed, you can experience pain in your heel.
The plantar fascia can become damaged when microtears affect the tissue, which is what causes you to have pain. Athletes and runners can often suffer from plantar fasciitis, and it affects older people as well.
The good news is that if you are suffering from heel pain, we can provide you with a treatment that is right for you. Your podiatrist will first diagnose the problem so that we can treat it.
There are different options available to you, and treatment for heel pain that is often effective is the use of orthotics. At Walk Without Pain, we have different types of orthotics in Brisbane to overcome your heel pain and to suit your budget. With prefabricated and customised orthotics, along with our Copythotics, we will find the right support for your feet.
As well as orthotics, we can also offer injections and medication to relieve any of the painful symptoms that you might be having. At each clinic, we have a podiatrist who can supply medicine, and if this is the right option for you, your podiatrist will talk you through how this can help.
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is effective in the treatment of plantar fasciitis, and it can help your feet to repair the damage, and therefore helps to take away the pain.
What Fasciitis Treatment Options are Available in Brisbane?
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain on the bottom surface of your foot. The plantar fascia is a thick band of gristle that runs from the heel to the ball of the foot. It covers a large area of the sole of the foot. Unlike a tendon or a muscle, the fibres that make up a plantar fascia are very rigid. It has a medial band which is on the inside / big toe side of the foot. There is also a lateral band that runs up to behind the small toes. It is almost always the inner medial band that becomes painful. The pain is usually bad for the first couple of minutes of standing after rest or sleep. It will then often improve before worsening again with ongoing use. Standing still may be as bad as, or worse, for pain than walking.
Everyone wants to be able to leave and walk without pain, and here at our four clinics in Brisbane, that is just what we do. Skilled and experienced podiatrists make up our team and use the latest methods and treatments to relieve any chronic pain that you might be experiencing. If you believe that you could be suffering from plantar fasciitis, we can offer you treatment that lets you live your life more comfortably.
There are several options of plantar fasciitis therapy, and one thing that you can be certain of when you come to Walk Without Pain is that your podiatrist will offer you the best treatment for your plantar fasciitis in Bribane, all while keeping you and your circumstances in mind. Read More
Why Do you Get Plantar Fasciitis?
When your foot is sitting properly, the band stretches across the arch, travelling a particular distance. The higher the arch of the foot, the shorter the distance from the heel to the toes. In a foot that rolls in (flatfoot, pronation, fallen arches) the distance that the plantar fascia has to cross increases. As the band is not a stretchy structure, this elongation will cause the plantar fascia to pull on its weakest attachment. For most people, this is at a point called the Medial Tubercle of the Calcaneus. This is directly under the heel, shown in the image shaded red.
Other common places for plantar fascia related pain include around the rim of the heel and through the arch. If the tissue is under stress for a long period, the body may lay down extra bone at the Medial Tubercle. This is called a heel spur.

Choosing The Right Treatment Options across Brisbane
Treating your plantar fasciitis in Brisbane is essential to stem the possibilities of suffering from its effects for years to come. Many patients speak about having endured ‘attacks’ or episodes from time to time. Bad advice says to just ride it out and wait for it to go away, but this does nothing and achieves little for you in the long run. It is much more important to actually treat this condition so that you don’t have to limit your life and live in fear of that chronic pain recurring again and again, and most likely at inopportune moments.
The initial assessment allows us to get a sense of how this affects you and how damaged the ligaments are. We usually finish this session by strapping up the foot, which for most people cuts down the pain that they are experiencing sometimes by half.
Following this, orthotics may be determined to be the best solution that will offer you comfort and freedom of movement. Here at Walk Without Pain, we can customise orthotics that will fit the exact structure of your feet, however, this may not be necessary. Regardless, we have plenty of choices where orthotics is concerned and all of them at much more affordable rates than other practitioners.
Something that has come to the fore in recent years as a potential best treatment for fasciitis is ESWT therapy. This method sees a pulse delivered to the affected area and involves no electricity, in case you were wondering. This triggers the body into repair and sees more blood delivered to the area.
Fasciitis Treatment Options at Walk Without Pain in Brisbane
The first thing that we will do when you book an appointment at Walk Without Pain is to give you an examination so that we can make a proper diagnosis. If plantar fasciitis is found, we will then discuss a treatment plan with you.
During your assessment, we have access to the latest technology, and along with our experience, this allows us to make an accurate diagnosis. Each clinic is fitted out with diagnostic ultrasound equipment. Along with this, each of our podiatrists is also able to order X-rays if they are required so that we can get to the bottom of your problem.
As part of your plantar fasciitis therapy in Brisbane, you might be offered orthotics. Orthotics are special inserts that relieve any pressure or chronic pain you may be feeling, and they are chosen or created for you depending on what the problem is.
At Walk Without Pain, we offer a variety of options for orthotics in Brisbane, and these all come in at different price points. Our cheapest orthotic option is the Component Orthotic, where your podiatrist will choose prefabricated components to treat your plantar fasciitis. These are usually quick to make, although the downside is that they are often chunky and thick as this component cannot be customised.
However, a Custom Orthotic gives you a customisable orthotic that is done by using a high-tech computer program that takes a model of your feet. They can be customised according to the thickness, flexibility, fit, contour and degree of correction, so they are an excellent option for many of our patients.
At Walk Without Pain, we also have Copythotic, which copies an existing orthotic device and can make small adjustments. A great advantage is that they can be made firmer or softer to make your orthotics more comfortable and functional.
We can also offer injections and medication for relief from plantar fasciitis, and each practice has a podiatrist who can prescribe medicines.
Finally, we can offer shockwave therapy, which often provides relief from the chronic pain of your plantar fasciitis.
